Painting
My painting practice reveals a continuous development about a response to environments, taking place in the landscape and in the studio. Going back to painting made me feel differently about it as the practice of painting provides me with a way of understanding and apprehending a deeper appreciation through visual language. I made a series of paintings as a response to living by the sea and the feeling this gives, focusing on brush marks and colour to provide a language to convey these feelings.
Drawing
My drawing practice acts as a way of seeing and encountering the world. Spending time drawing provides a means of close observation, studying the forms of plants to understand them better.
Dyes
Using local and exotic plants in the SW and mud from the Thames River, London, the Penryn Estuary, Cornwall and earth pigments from North Devon, West Somerset and Pembrokeshire, Wales, I have experimented with traditional and contemporary dye techniques including solar, burying, composting and immersion.
Film
Film work is mostly done in collaboration with other artists including dancers and attempts to portray aspects of the natural world, including human interraction.
